In this article, I will share the 8 Easy Steps To Display Advertisements with Google's AdSense product.
One of the added advantages of using a WordPress self-hosted Blog is the ability to display advertisements and generate revenue out of it. The Google AdSense Plugin (now deprecated) was definitely the Best Choice for Novice and Experts to easily monetize their WordPress blog using Ads!
Since they have rolled out (Read the Official News here), Bloggers must know find another way to earn revenue by displaying Ads on their website. Worry not, because You can still use Google AdSense and display Ads on your website/blog.
The Google AdSense Plugin had made the life of Bloggers easy with its simple and easy-to-manage User Interface. As a user, all you had to do was to sign-in with your Google AdSense Account and authorize the plugin to display advertisements. But after its official sunset (roll-out), Bloggers are left with the below two choices:
- Find an Advertiser and Rent them some space on your WordPress website (Widget, Sidebar, etc.) - It's Hard to Find A Trusted Third Party!
- Search for Alternative Advertisement Plugins to display Ads on your WordPress Website - Most of such plugins are BOGUS or Not Free!
But there is another way and you can still use Google AdSense and display Ads on your website. In this step-by-step guide, I will walk you through 8 easy steps on setting up and displaying ads on your blog.

A Step-By-Step Guide For Bloggers
Step 01 - Sign In to Your Google AdSense Account
Once signed in, you can see a menu on the left. Click on "My Ads".
Step 02 - Create New Ad Unit
An "Ad Unit" is a set of different ads that are generated with one unique AdSense Ad Code.
Ad Unit: A set of ads displayed as a result of one piece of the AdSense ad code. You can create and customize an ad unit in your AdSense account. You can name your ad units and manage their settings in your account (for ad units created after November 2007). Official Link - https://support.google.com/adsense/answer/32715?hl=en
At least one Ad Unit is necessary to set up advertisements. You can set up any number of Ad Units for your website.
Click on the "+ New ad unit" button to create your Ad Unit.
Step 03 - Saving An Ad Unit
The next page asks few details regarding the Ads to be displayed on your website.
- Name - Provide a unique and easily identifiable name for your Ad Unit
- Ad size - Ads will be displayed based on the Ad size selected here. You can filter based on recommended, horizontal or vertical banners, etc. For optimum response, select all that apply
You can ignore the other options for now. Click "Save and get code".
Step 04 - Using the AdSense Ad Code
Copy the code and click close.
Step 05 - Create A "Text" Widget
Copy the code and click close.
Once you have saved/stored/copied the AdSense Ad Code for the Ad Unit you have created, the next step is to create a "Text" widget.
From your Dashboard, move your mouse over to the "Plugins" item and Select "Widgets". See the blue colored menu item in the above image.
On the Widgets page, you will see various widgets that are available for you based on the current WordPress Theme you are using. Scroll down and look for "Text" Widget item. Select where you want to place the Widget and click "Add Widget" button.
Primary sidebar appears on either the Left or the Right sidebar or on both sides of your WordPress Website depending on your WordPress Theme.
Step 06 - Adding AdSense Ad Code
Once you click the "Add Widget" button, you will see a Text widget added in your sidebar. Click on the widget and paste the Ad Unit AdSense Code there.
Click "Save" and it's done! The Ads will be displayed on your website soon!
Step 07 - Enable Page Level Ads
Google's Page Level Ads allows you to add page level advertisements with just a flick of a switch. Click the "Turn on all formats" button to enable it.
If you were previously using the Google AdSense plugin for WordPress, then the "QuickStart Ads" format would be disabled by default. Page Level Ads only work with custom Ad units which you created in Step-01 of this guide.
Step 08 - Setting the Ad Balance
Google AdSense provides a very easy slider for its users to set a criteria for Estimated Earnings versus Potential Ads.
Set it to 100% and click "Apply". If you are a pro blogger and run various Ad Campaigns through AdSense, you can adjust this slider as per your needs.
